About The Diversity Initiative

Responding to an increase in the number of suspected racially motivated attacks in Ukraine beginning in December 2006, International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Amnesty International (AI) and other concerned civil society organizations formed the Diversity Initiative network in April 2007 to begin addressing the issue in a coordinated way.

Sign petition to release a Nigerian student Olaolu Sunkanmi Femi from detention

Add your signature to the request demanding from the President of Ukraine to release a Nigerian student Olaolu Sunkanmi Femi from detention and to ensure a fair trial for him. Since November 2011 26-year old Nigerian is in prison for having the courage to confront five young people who had committed a racially motivated attack against him and his friend. A pre-determined position of the police and prosecutors led to Femi’s arrest in favor of the attackers and pressing criminal charges against him. Now Olaolu is facing a long prison term.

”Diversity Camp” Inspires Combating Racism and Xenophobia in Ukraine

Representatives of Ukrainian NGOs, state bodies, migrant communities, diplomatic institutions and human rights organizations gathered in Kyiv to celebrate the 5thAnniversary of the Diversity Initiative (DI), a voluntary network combating racism and xenophobia in Ukraine, co-chaired by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Youth Camp SMART Diversity & Culture

Camp will take place on 22-23 September in Sumy. The agenda includes sessions in English with foreign volunteers about culture and traditions of other countries, stereotypes, intercultural communication, life and travelling abroad, leadership games, contests etc.

Target group: youth age 12-17

Participation fee: 360 UAH
