About The Diversity Initiative

Responding to an increase in the number of suspected racially motivated attacks in Ukraine beginning in December 2006, International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Amnesty International (AI) and other concerned civil society organizations formed the Diversity Initiative network in April 2007 to begin addressing the issue in a coordinated way.

Аnalytical Center «Open Policy» together with Interdepartmental working group on counteracting xenophobia, interethnic and racial intolerance and Friedrich Ebert Foundation organises a round table «Interaction of the state and civil sectors for preventing and counteracting right extremism» on October 12, 2009.

The aim of the round table is to define the deficiencies and explore the possibilities of interaction between the public sector and the civil society, exchange of best practices for preventing and counteracting displays of xenophobia, racism and anti-Semitism in Ukraine.

ХІІІ All-Ukrainian Festival of Jewish Art «SHALOM, UKRAINE!»

Jewish Forum of Ukraine invites all to a gala concert of ХІІІ All-Ukrainian Festival of Jewish Art «SHALOM, UKRAINE!» with the participation of the National Academic orchestra of folk instruments of Ukraine on August 30, 2009 at 17:00, in the Kyiv municipal academic theatre of opera and ballet for children and youth (2, Mezhyhirska street, near metro station Kontraktova Ploshcha). The event is organized with support from the Ministry of Culture and Art of Ukraine, Jewish Forum of Ukraine and is sponsored by the American Jewish Distribution Committee «Joint», Elko, Privatbank.

Students from different countries will help refurbish the Jewish cemetry in Chernivsti.

For two weeks students from various countries of Europe and all parts of Ukraine will help clean and refurbish the Jewish cemetery located on the Zelena Street in Chernivtsi. These students are volunteers of the project of a German NGO, «An Act of Redemption – To Serve Peace». Chernivtsi has 70 nationalities inhabiting the city, among them are Jews, Romanians, Moldovans, Russians, Georgians, Armenians, Poles, Germans and other nationalities. International Remembrance Day of Roma Victims of the Pharraimos (Holocaust)

This year August 2 will be the International Remembrance Day of Roma Victims of the Pharraimos (Holocaust) as adopted at the European Roma and Travelers Forum in the Council of Europe. On this day in 1944, more than 3000 Roma und Sinti in Auschwitz-Birkenau were gassed.
